Wood Boring Insects - Woodworm
Woodworm is the name commonly given to wood boring insects of which there are around 20 of these in the UK, some of these do not need any treatment as they only attack the tree whilst it is growing and do not survive once the tree has been cut and the timber dried, some of course do need to be treated as they will be living and feeding on the timber / wood once it is being used for construction or furniture, some only attack damp timber whilst others attack timber which is dry or damp so it is essential that the type of insect is identified and a timber / wood moisture check is carried out prior to any action being taken. SJA Pest Control carry out these checks as standard during their survey and then advise of the best action to take
The insect we usually associate with woodworm is the Deathwatch Beetle, so called because residents very often hear the knocking noise that this insect makes as it is working away, however the two most common timber pests found in the UK are the Common Furniture Beetle and Wood Boring Weevils. If you think you have a timber pest it is always best to get it checked.
Where treatments are required then specialist products which range from water based sprays to oil based pastes are used to control the problem.
